Why the NYT "iPhone Security Breach" Story is Total B.S.
The exploit is not in the wild and has been reported to Apple; full details are at the Independent Security Evaluators site. You might think from reading the article that this vulnerability isn't only the first for the iPhone but the first ever reported on any smartphone anywhere.

Zonbox: The $100 Apple?

Zonbox: The $100 Apple?
An incredible $100 PC that is being compared to Apple in terms of ease of use, uses Linux as its core OS (but conceals the complexity of Linux, much like OSX conceals the complexity of UNIX), and is at the outset, a Web 2.0 device leveraging heavily its connectivity to create the Apple experience for a fraction of the cost.

"What is the one thing that strikes fear in the heart of any Apple geek
’s spouse? Why, the thought that their Mac-obsessed partner might one day bring home a nearly 6-foot tall neon Apple logo, of course! And for one unlucky person, that nightmare may become a reality."

Taking a stand against outing Fake Steve Jobs
The Unofficial Apple Weblog takes a stand against Valleywag, who are trying to find the true identity of FSJ. TUAW feels it's a lot more fun NOT knowing who's behind the clever blog. Valleywag, in typical fashion, just wants you to digg their stupidity.

18k Gold-Plated iPod shuffle Signals Downfall of the Civilized World
Normally we skip over these bullshit gold-plated gadgets, but this 18-karat gold-plated iPod shuffle's picture was so pretty we couldn't resist. We would've been even more impressed if it were solid 24-karat gold, but we'll just have to settle for this gold plating.

iPhone Partially Unlocked, Calls Without AT&T Contract

iPhone Partially Unlocked, Calls Without AT&T Contract
The amazing wizards at the iPhone Dev Wiki have been able to partially unlock the iPhone using a new application called iASign. It won't fully unlock the iPhone, but the hack will allow you to use any existing Cingular/AT&T Pre-paid SIM so you don't have to get a contract with AT&T. That's full call functionality without two years of slavery.

Apple Store to Begin Charging Entrance Fee
If you want to see the iPhone at an Apple store, be sure to bring some cash. Large crowds flocking to see the iPhone and next generation iPods have forced Apple to begin charging a $5 entrance fee for Apple stores. Many analysts anticipated the move, and expect a positive response from customers.

Buzz Andersen: Three Weeks with the iPhone
One of the fun things about no longer being an Apple employee is that I'm now much more at liberty to speak my mind about Apple's products. Apple may have a reputation for being a bit of a cult, but in my experience, most insiders are only too willing to call a spade a spade when the company's...

Apple ties Gateway for third in US PC shipments, looks to steal the bronze
While many have criticized Apple for giving the iPhone more priority than the Mac, it looks like sales aren't suffering because of it. Presumably due to the halo effect, Apple's US PC shipments for Q2 of this year landed them in a tie with the once mighty Gateway in terms of market share.

Geeks are not Apple's target with the iPhone
Roy Singham argued that the iPhone is not the game changing device that most people claim it to be because his Nokia N95 smartphones can do more and better. The discussion was cut short due to scheduling pressure but it got me thinking, why do people lust after iPhone more than other smartphones?
